Andrew Sommerlot, PhD is a highly experienced Lead AI/ML Engineer, currently working at PLNAR. With over 9 years of relevant experience, he has a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions in the field of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. In his current role at PLNAR, Andrew is responsible for leading the AI/ML team, driving the development of cutting-edge solutions that leverage ML and AI technologies to provide exceptional customer experiences. He is highly skilled in developing predictive processes and creating custom solutions for clients, with a focus on key strategies that support the creation, evaluation, and delivery of predictive processes. Prior to PLNAR, Andrew worked at Senseye, Inc. where he held several key positions including Director of Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence and Lead Machine Learning Engineer. In these roles, he oversaw the training, testing, and deployment of solutions ranging from hand-coded logic to convolutional neural networks. He also developed the ML team into a comprehensive Machine Learning department and managed budget, strategy, and training and development to expand the function beyond analysis and enable more complex deliveries. Andrew holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biological Systems Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a Master of Science (MS) in Biosystems Engineering from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biosystems Engineering from Michigan State University. He has also completed Self-Driving Car coursework in Artificial Intelligence from Udacity. In addition to his educational background, Andrew is highly skilled in several technical areas including ML, AI, Neural Networks, and Senior Software Engineering.
